Social Media Marketing and Etiquette
Posted in Real Estate Marketing 2.0 By G Dewald | Union Street Media, Thursday, May 22, 2008.I'm going to be interviewing Anna Post of the Emily Post Institute later today for a blog post about Social Media Marketing and Etiquette. I'm going to be defining social media fairly broadly to include social networking sites, blogs, fora and anything else that constitutes a group of people "gathering" online.
I've got a nice healthy list of questions for Anna but since the purpose of me writing the article is to get you all to read it... I figured I'd ask if there are any questions you want me to put forth.
Interview's in about an hour.

knowing you [via Inman communities] I am sure your list thoroughly covers any questions I'd have... like how does she imagine marketing would look within a social media context like Facebook or on a forum, because it seems to me the old paradigm simply won't work well there. I think marketing departments are afraid to relax. and I mean that on many levels.
how do you market yourself in the midst of a conversation? maybe you don't. maybe you just are yourself. So, I'd like to hear what the etiquette would be for social media users. clearly nothing invasive, yes? ...and great idea to do this btw. your energy is unstoppable...and i look forward to listening!

Thanks Stacey, you make me blush.
Great question! I had something similar but your wording is much better. I'll be sure to ask.
I have to confess that rounding up the interview was pretty easy because they're just down the hall from Union Street Media and I'm friends with a several of the Post Institute employees.
The kerfuffle on the Redfin blog a few weeks back inspired the idea but I've been too busy to act on it until now.

ah...gotta get me some Redfin kerfuffle. missed that will do. thanks for asking us what we'd wanna hear. and no confession needed. if we can't see what's in our own neighborhood and how it relates to us--we're lost. now, if only red tailed hawks and turkeys could talk real estate...

hmmmmm who is more social?
Meleagris wins the Cluetrain award!
maybe I SHOULD be looking out the window more often! that's where the paradigm shift for social media marketing is hidden!
...so the big guy should sit on the crest of the hill early in the morning [looking gorgeous btw] and steadily gobble his love call to the rest of his group..who slowly scuffle thru the dry grass until they reach him...then off for a bug breakfast together.
???
so..something like "hey this is great, come here and hang out with me so i know you're okay and we can relax chill out, be groovy, and independently wander around in a loose group and have a greentea together. i'll call if you wander too far"

Hello MR "G"
I read your review on my website a couple of weeks ago and I migrated from html to css, my site lost ranking and its not coming up on the first or second page anymore I tought that CSS tableless pages would make SEO better, any idea on what happened to my rank?

I'm not certain why Google penalized you. I'm fairly certain it has nothing to do with using a table-less design (though, to be honest, the code on the page is still pretty thick and would benefit from making use of CSS instead of so much embedded styling).
It could be that it's a new domain and you're being sandboxed for a while.
I'd recommend looking through the Webmaster Guidelines:

Also, seeing as you have Google Webmaster tools for the site, you may want to review the reports for site errors. This may clear up any issue the Googlebot is having with your site.
If you are convinced it is the table-less coding switch, try changing it back and see if the site goes up again. Assuming the tables are the only thing you changed.
