Having been a Realtor serving Northeastern Illinois (the west and northwest suburbs of Chicagoland primarily) for more than 25 years, I've witnessed and embraced so many changes in this industry. But so much more is on the horizon - new technologies, new servicing models the provide greater control to the consumer, as well as greater understanding and regard for those professionals I'm proud to call my colleagues.

    Excellent article, Kris, and kudos to your thought process about all this, too! The companies that ARE successful are those that keep their eye on the prize...and that prize is not what's in their coffers, but rather it's all those delighted customers. As they say, the more people you help achieve their objectives, the closer you come to your own. I also agree with your point about the disparity between how we are charged to serve the consumer (representation, fiduciary, "service", etc.) and what we are called (salesperson). Our industry needs a serious "reality check". The demands of the consumer have dramatically changed, particularly over the past 10 years or so, but the industry seems intent on functioning "the same ol' way".
